A Little Something About Us

Secret Lands Farm is situated amidst the rolling hills of North West Ontario. 135 kilometers from Toronto, and only 95 kilometers from Guelph, this convenient location lets us bring all natural and fresh products to you daily, while providing our plants and animals the country’s clean air.

Established in 1904, Secret Lands Farm is equipped with its own pesticide/herbicide-free pastures and fields for the abundant hormone-free sheep that call this farm their home. Secret Lands Farm is home owned and operated by the Burov family since 2013. We manage our farm according to the strictest organic principles, but are not organically certified. It is a core belief that we only bring the finest and freshest products directly from our table to yours.

Combining new technology with European tradition, we are able to produce artisan cheese, yogurt, kefir, and other sheep dairy products that can only be made on a smaller scale than most corporations. This results in a one-on-one relationship between us and the products; we are able to provide more attention to the quality, taste, and nutritional benefits of our products.

The happy sheep of Secret Lands Farm rely on highly nutritious and fertile soil to produce the wholesome dairy that is unique to them. The naturally occurring nutrients in the soil are transferred into the grass growing in our picturesque fields. The sheep are then allowed to graze in these fields, while the remaining fields are used to make haylage – a method of preserving grass by baling it at higher moisture content than dry hay, wrapping it in plastic, and storing it. This prolongs the freshness of the grass, extends the nutrients’ lifetime, and increases the protein content. Consuming the nutrient rich haylage in turn raised the sheep milk’s protein content. Thus, our sheep are only fed with the freshest, all natural nutritious food, resulting in high quality dairy products.

Because of our sheep’s succulent diet, consisting of all natural and pesticide/herbicide free fresh grass and haylage, the milk, cheese, yogurt, and kefir that we have to offer are naturally sweet and rich with beneficial, easily digestible, and naturally occurring fat. This healthy fat content, unique to sheep dairy, results in the creamiest milk, cheese, yogurt, and kefir. In addition, the probiotics in the yogurt and kefir are essential for maintaining healthy digestion.

And, whereas other dairy producers use packaged laboratory raised cultures, we use kefir as  a starter culture for all of our cheeses and yogurts. The complex community of microorganisms in kefir help give our cheeses excellent flavour, and contribute probiotics to all of our products.

We, at Secret Lands Farm, guarantee only the most excellent products for you and your families. We are excited to share our products with you, so you could join us in the celebration of wholesome, rich, and nutritious sheep dairy products that our farm has to offer.

In the end, the only secret that Secret Lands Farm will leave you with is how we manage to keep our products nutritious and delicious!
